Videos, articles, projects, work in progress, … All sorts of interesting stuff that I stumble upon during my various researches. Most of them are not related to design, but bring essential inspirations in my design work.

Urban Stargazing - Royal College of Art 2011

Over time, society has developed a complex rhythm that demands we live in an environment artificially lit twenty-four hours a day
preventing us from experiencing the natural lights coming from billions of light years away, shining and twinkling as soon as
the Sun sets to the west.

The Urban Stargazing project focuses on bringing back the stars in the city sky by recreating existing constellations and adding
new ones, narrating old and contemporary myths about London. Twelve groups of stars have been installed at different locations
in the city, and can only be observed by the naked eye at night time.

Below is the map showing each constellation with their corresponding coordinates. To go on a stargazing walk, enter
the latitude/longitude of any constellation on a web mapping application. Alternatively, follow the link to the Google map.

The Thread 23/10/2010

The Thread is an experimental project born from the evolution of open source
movement and web 2.0. Its objective is to see if we can, all together, write a
fictional novel. The thread’s working principle is similar to any forum’s posts.
Anyone can participate to it. Instead of writing a comment, write a story.
Starting from page one, writers have the choice to develop an existing story or
to start a new thread.

Please add your part of the story.

RepRap, the machine, by Adrian Bowyer

Last Thursday, Adrian Bowyer from University of Bath came to the Royal College of Art to present us his Reprap machine.
The Reprap is a 3D printer designed to be capable of rapid prototyping itself. It costs only about 300£ instead of several
thousands. Is that a glimpse into the future home device? Another great thing, is that everything is open source, thus
allowing anyone to make it better. Although it wont make "finished" product yet, it is a great tool for any product development
stage.

Spray-On

A very clever non lethal weapon

The Led incapacitor is using the led technology to arrest suspect without the use of the force. By shinning the light directly
at the suspect, it creates dizziness and vertigo.

Seeing in circles 28/05/10

Looking at the different ways to shoot videos. Part of a workshop at the RCA led by Rosario Hurtado and Quique Corrales.
May 2010. Instead of making a normal movie, I am trying to get a colour gradient of what the camera is shooting. There is
no postproduction involved, the effect is achieved by connecting the lens of the camera to a drilling machine. The video is
taking 15 frames per second, whereas the drill is spinning at more than 20 turn per second.

Airbag for motorbikes

Dainese is set to release its new air-bag-equipped suits by 2010 - a full 10 years after development of the system began.
Dainese's D-Tec system is the first airbag from a major protective bike cloting manufacturer, although small companies
have released jackets with cruder activation systems.

Richard Dawkins meets Derren Brown

A really interesting interview by two great minds.
"The Enemies of Reason", worth watching.

Hotel RCA was at Salone del Mobile in Milan
